Focus…………… huh what?

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you

by: C.S. Lewis

There are so many things that we can be working on, focused on, looking at, thinking about, and more. But the Bible is very clear about some stuff we are supposed to be doing with our minds.

Colossians 3:12 (AMP) – So, as God’s own chosen people, who are holy [set apart, sanctified for His purpose] and well-beloved [by God Himself], put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience [which has the power to endure whatever injustice or unpleasantness comes, with good temper]

He says that we need to set our minds on things of Him. Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience all these things take focus. It takes determination. And some day, when it is hard, it is just flat out hard work to keep all these things in your life. But the Bible says that this is what we need to be focusedo on. There are many opportunities to focus on our situations and circumstances, but God doesn’t tell us to do that.

Proverbs 4:25 – Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.

That is pretty clear and straightforward about where our attention should lie. With Him. On Him. On the things He has in FRONT of us not the things that are BEHIND us.

Matthew 6:33 – But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

You seek Him first. What does seek mean? To go in search or quest of; to look for; to search for by going from place to place. Or to inquire for; to ask for; to solicit; to endeavor to find or gain by any means. So if we are supposed to seek Him FIRST. Then that means by any means we should go after Him with a focus and determination to find Him and what He wants for us.

Romans 8:5 – For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

We can have our focus on the wrong things. Things of this world. Things of the fless. And the moment we do we ahve lost our attention or our focus from being on God. Our lifestyle can and will determine our focus. If our lifestyle is Godly and full of the Spirit, then we are focusing on the things oof the Spirit. With living a worldly life. Then of course our focus is on this world and what it has to offer (which just ain’t worth it).

If that last verse didn’t hit it home for you about what you are supposed to be thinking about and focused on, check this out. Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Now that was a drop the mic moment. BOOM. Now can you say you think about all these things all the time? I can’t. I’m working on it. But, I’m still a work in progress. Here is like a Biblical outline of our mindset. Or I should say what our mindset should be like. In all areas of like there are many opportunities for us to focus on the things we shouldn’t be focusing on instead of God. But what does the Bible say about looking to Him and staying focused on Him?

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

So, we are to lay aside sin and distractions which try to hold on to our life. Let it go. (Think Frozen thoughts 🙂 hahahaha) Run with endurance. That takes focus. And where should we be looking? Where should our eyes be? On JESUS!

Well I hope this helped ya today. Get your life adjusted. Stay focused. And tune in to Him. Till next Real Bible Life catch y’all later.
